OBIFD Launches New Responder Supplemental Support Committee (RSSC)
The Board of Directors has created a new committee whose purpose is to give financial support for the professional and career development of our first responders, both firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
While OBIFD has historically funded the formal education and training programs for certification, the RSSC will help with supplemental costs such as transportation, lodging, meals, course materials and other needs as they arise in connection with such training. In addition, the RSSC will enable responders to seek beneficial training experiences farther afield, including those on a national level. This will enable our responders to keep up with the latest best practices and the laws and regulations surrounding firefighting and medical response.
Donations earmarked for this new committee’s budget are welcomed. We are also seeking volunteers from the community to assist in researching grants that could be available to support the mission of the RSSC and to help us apply for such grants.
Responders interested in applying for supplemental training and education funds or anyone interested in volunteering for the RSSC should contact the chairperson, Jan Skillings-Goff at 978.530.6417, jsglau@hotmail.com/.
